Once of the most anticipated movies of 2022 is the upcoming Top Gun: Maverick. Long-delayed and waited for even longer,

this sequel to the 1980s smash hit seems to be ready to take nostalgia for the era to new heights. It does so with a star-studded cast, some of whom are more than familiar to fans of the original.

Set long after the first movie, Maverick draws on nostalgia while showcasing just how far filmmaking, special effects and the world at large have come.

It's been in development for quite a while, but fans are finally about to receive clearance to land when it comes to movie theaters in a few months.

Tom Cruise returns to his iconic role of Maverick, and he's not alone in coming back to the franchise. Also being brought back is Val Kilmer as Admiral "Iceman" Kazansky.

However, '80s icon Meg Ryan will not be returning to reprise the character. Instead, Jean Louisa Kelly will be taking over as the mother of Rooster Bradshaw.

Other major cast members include Jennifer Connelly as Penny Benjamin, a bar owner who becomes Maverick's new love interest,

as well as Jon Hamm as Vice Admiral Cyclone. Ed Harris is also in the movie as Rear Admiral, Maverick's more than questioning superior.
