The Boys season 3 showrunner Eric Kripke talks about the surprise appearance of an A-list star in a major meta superhero cameo in the opening episode.
The new season kicks off with a scene from Dawn of the 7, a faux movie adaptation of the superhero team, playing themselves for the most part, including team leader Homelander (Antony Starr),
Starlight (Erin Moriarty), Queen Maeve (Dominique McElligott), Black Noir (Nathan Mitchell), and A-Train (Jessie T. Usher).
However, the adversary they face in the "movie" has a very different actor wearing the costume of Stormfront, the Nazi villain from The Boys season 2.
Played by Aya Cash in The Boys season 2, Stormfront is instead played by actress Charlize Theron in the opening of The Boys season 3, hamming up the role in meta style.
The dialogue is meant to be on the cheesier side and Theron portrays Stormfront completely straight, uttering silly Nazi dialogue in an earnest fashion
Things get even more meta when compared to Theron's other recent superhero cameo at the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as Clea.
The Boys season 3 shows that Theron isn't afraid to take a little risk as well, poking fun at herself to a degree and making her appeal that much stronger as a result.
