Warner Bros. has pushed back Shazam: Fury of the Gods a handful of days in an apparent attempt to avoid colliding with Avatar: The Way of Water.

Originally set for release in June 2023, Shazam: Fury of the Gods was bumped up to December 2022 as the studio delayed Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash to next year.

However, eyebrows were raised when Warner Bros. opted to open the upcoming DC film against none other than the long-awaited Avatar 2.

Shazam 2 will see the returns of Zachary Levi and Asher Angel, both of whom play young hero Billy Batson.

When the teenage Billy (Asher) says the word "Shazam," he turns into a super-powered adult (Levi). Shazam: Fury of the Gods' plot details are still being kept under wraps,

but it will involve a pair of formidable godly villains: Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Liu). New footage for Shazam 2 screened earlier this week at CinemaCon,.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods might benefit from the later December release date. December 21 is the same date Aquaman opened on in 2018

The release of Kraven the Hunter in January 2023, Shazam: Fury of the Gods likely will perform well through the season.
