A rematch between the two alphas of the MonsterVerse in Godzilla vs. Kong 2 could only work in one way.

The fact that the upcoming MonsterVerse movie is being described as a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel has created the impression that the two will come to blows once more.

Godzilla vs. Kong finally provided a definitive answer to the question of which monster would win by giving Godzilla not one, but two decisive victories over Kong.

While Kong seemed to accept his loss at the time, it’s at least possible that this decision was driven by his injuries. When he recovers, he could want another shot at the Titan who nearly killed him.

While the setup for a rematch does exist, this scenario is made problematic by the notion that the MonsterVerse already solved the Godzilla vs King Kong debate.

To avoid their next fight feeling like an unnecessary addition to their MonsterVerse story, Godzilla vs. Kong 2 would have to do what its predecessor couldn’t, which is to pack it with monsters.

Adding in more Titans is the only way Godzilla vs. Kong 2 could approach a rematch that wouldn’t seem pointless.

That way, the sequel can still have something new and unique to offer when it pits the two against each other again.
