Rose Rock, the mother of comedian Chris Rock, addressed her son's infamous altercation with Will Smith at the 94th Academy Awards, saying that the actor "slapped all of us."

"You reacted to your wife giving you the side-eye and you went and made her day because she was mulled over laughing when it happened," Rock said in an interview with WIS News 

who was watching the ceremony at home. Initially, she explained, she thought the incident was staged until "[Smith] started using obscenities." She said 

Leading up to the slap, Chris Rock was presenting the Academy Award for Best Documentary, which went to Questlove for Summer of Soul.  

"No one even heard his speech," Rose Rock said. "No one was able to just be in the moment because everyone was sitting there like, 'what just happened?'" 

While presenting at the 2022 Oscars, comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith's shaved head, wherein he said, "Jada, I love you-- G.I Jane 2, can't wait to see it."  

" Pinkett Smith has spoken publicly about her struggles with alopecia and Smith, in response to the joke, shocked the audience and Rock by walking on stage and slapping the comedian across the face.
